Oil and gas companies drilling on public lands would be required to do a better job cleaning up under legislation introduced Tuesday by U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Colo. Under the bill, bonding requirements for drilling would increase and the federal government would create a multi-billion program cleaning up so-called orphaned well sites.
