The offshore drilling industry has long been considered a driver of technological advances that have unlocked oil and gas resources in some of the most complex drill sites in the world.
Here are some of the top technologies that have changed the industry according to Wafik Beydoun, the chairman of the 2018 Offshore Technology Conference and chairman of Total Kuwait:
—Remotely operated underwater vehicles, or ROVs, have probably been the single most important development in terms of impact on the offshore industry. They made underwater oil and gas drilling possible, and allowed the industry to expand operations into deeper water.
