Even as population and economies grow in India and Africa, per capita energy consumption is expected to stay relatively low – far below rates seen in the United States and Europe and even China – the U.S. Energy Information Administration reported. At the same time growth in China’s energy consumption is slowing, a trend that could intensify if the Chinese economy slows and the government in Beijing shifts away from a manufacturing economy towards a more consumer-orientated economy.
